June 29th

by Pastor Sam on Jun.15, 2009, under Everyday New Song

This year’s 6/29 marks the 7th year wedding anniversary for me and my wife. Is it “already” or “only”? Little bit of both. Once I again, I resolve to love my wife as Christ loved his church, by giving himself sacrificially.

Also, the date marks 1 year anniversary for New Song Church, NY. Many of you remember our humble beginning. But by God’s grace, we are alive and well, adding believers each Sunday.

Past few weeks, I’ve been thinking, “what should we do on 6/29?” (This case 28th is Sunday). 1 Year Celebration. There are many ways to make this event meaningful. But it occurred to me this morning, why don’t we collect offering on 28th and give entirety to Professor H in X country and Pastor Lee in Mongolia? What better way is there to honor our Triune God and reaffirm our vision?

I’ve spoken yesterday on money. Remember five things? The order in which we use our money?

1. Spend

2. Pay Debt

3. Pay Taxes

4. Save

5. Give to God and Others

*Let’s reverse the order. Let’s give God the first portion/priority. And as each individual works on the list in their own lives, New Song will do the same as it has done until today.

June 28th Sunday Collection will go to missions. Prepare “ahead” by setting aside portion of your income. I hope you remember how poor Macedonian church (esp. Philippian church) gave out of “poverty” but with “abundance of joy”.

2 Cor. 8:1-5

8:1 We want you to know, brothers, about the grace of God that has been given among the churches of Macedonia, 2 for in a severe test of affliction, their abundance of joy and their extreme poverty have overflowed in a wealth of generosity on their part. 3 For they gave according to their means, as I can testify, and beyond their means, of their own accord, 4 begging us earnestly for the favor of taking part in the relief of the saints— 5 and this, not as we expected, but they gave themselves first to the Lord and then by the will of God to us. 6 Accordingly, we urged Titus that as he had started, so he should complete among you this act of grace. 7 But as you excel in everything—in faith, in speech, in knowledge, in all earnestness, and in our love for you—see that you excel in this act of grace also.

This week: Wed & Friday Open Meeting
